THE REFUGEES OF AZAWAD

The atrocities of Fama and Wagner and the terror of terrorist groups have forced thousands of people to flee to neighboring countries and end up in refugee camps and live a life of suffering, deprived of even the most basic necessities and the situation is urgent.

The Malian junta and its leader Wagner are burning trees and killing animals, poisoning water wells, etc. forcing the indigenous inhabitants to flee their lands, ending up in these refugee camps, if they make it there alive.

Thanks to the Azawad army, Tinzawatine was not taken by Mali and Wagner in July, and this most likely saved the lives of the people on the Azawadian side of Tinzawatine.

But in the refugee camps on the Algerian border, unlike Mauritania, the Algerian government refuses to grant refugee status to refugees and their children are deprived of school.

This is one of the old colonial tactics to keep a people uneducated, which leads to ignorance and inability to make a decent life, and also making young people targets for terrorist groups.

The root of this problem lies in the oppressor who knows very well what he is doing, destroying the lives of children for generations to come. This is how a people is exterminated, including destroying their culture and of course killing them directly. In addition, it is strongly believed that they add chemicals to the drones with which they attack them, causing an unknown disease in people and deformed offspring in animals, there has been several reports on this.

Only the people and government of Mauritania have reached out to support the refugees, unlike most countries that are openly reluctant to help these people who fled the hell of genocide perpetrated by the Malian army and Wagner and who have ended up in refugee camps in extremely difficult conditions.

A fundraiser was recently held for the Azawad Solidarity Association and the malaria medicine and winter clothing for the refugees in Tinzawatine and along the Algerian border have recently reached them. The next time there is a fundraiser to help them, we will advertise it here and post the link for more information on how to help.

In the meantime, we are reposting some of the photos that were shared on social media as patients received the medication they needed to survive.

During the first phase of the Azawad Solidarity fundraising, relief supplies reached the needy populations of Tinzawatine with the distribution of medical donations to fight the malaria epidemic, intended for the most vulnerable families in Tinzaouatine.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the exceptional mobilization of its members, the valuable support of partner and allied associations, in particular the ODTE and the Aman Imane Association, chaired by Abakoula Ag Argalaless, as well as the essential collaboration with the Tahaninte clinic, headed by Dr. Hassan Alla, which provided medical consultations and the distribution of medicines.

Aware of the logistical challenges and the high level of insecurity on the ground, Azawad Solidarity has chosen a phased approach for its distributions. Thus, a second phase took place and on December 14, 2024, the Azawad Solidarity association, in partnership with local health workers, organized a medical consultation campaign… and free distribution of medicines to displaced people from Inaghalwass, in Tinzawatine.

This event allowed several vulnerable people to benefit from free medical consultations and receive medicines.

Diseases…..the most common diseases encountered during this campaign are respiratory infections, malaria and severe acute malnutrition. The most affected group were children and women, who often lack warm clothing to protect themselves from the cold.

Thanks to the commitment of the Association and local health professionals, patients were able to receive the care and treatment necessary to improve their health. This initiative is part of the mission of the Azawad Solidarity association… …to provide medical and humanitarian support to vulnerable populations in the region.

By offering free consultations and medication, the association helps improve access to healthcare for displaced people, who often face difficult living conditions. …precariousness and lack of access to healthcare services.

The humanitarian situation of these displaced people is extremely complicated. Their health conditions are deplorable and their humanitarian needs are immense, in terms of food assistance and shelter.

And unfortunately, in addition to the bombings by Malian drones, the situation continues to get more complicated with the arrival of the cold season, which is very conducive to the spread of viruses.

This is why an urgent appeal has been launched to regional and international humanitarian organizations, and to all people of good will, to come to the aid of these displaced people, particularly these children.

Local aid has also provided much-needed clothing, especially winter clothing. These refugees have nothing… Fleeing the atrocities of Wagner and Fama, they have nothing. Without this help from local sources and from Azawad Solidarity, these refugees from Tinzawatine would not have received any help.

WE ARE HUMAN HERE!

The origin of their displacement: Since 2020, several Tuareg and Arab families have had to flee the exactions of ISIS in the region of Ménaka to take refuge in the peripheral city of Tinzaouatine. Added to this were almost all the locals who had fled their homes when Russian mercenaries from the paramilitary company Wagner arrived in November 2023.

These people have lost everything: their homes, their loved ones and their access to fundamental rights.

Children selling bread on the streets of Tinzawatine, these little boys saw their fathers assassinated by Wagner and Fama, or by a terrorist group, and must assume the role of breadwinner. This is not how a child should have to grow up! they should be playing, free of worries. But the oppression of Mali that drives the Azawadian population from their land and kills the parents of these children leaves them no choice. It is a question of survival.
