On April 6, we are supposed to celebrate the anniversary of Azawad’s independence, but the bitter truth is that we are commemorating the *anniversary of struggle, not the anniversary of freedom*
After 14 years of sacrifice, the people of Azawad continue to suffer under the weight of a “double betrayal” — the betrayal of our neighbors, Mali, Algeria, and Burkina Faso, and the betrayal of the international community, which has remained silent about the crimes of the Russian Wagner Group and the new occupation militias.
1. Historical Betrayal:
From the Burkina Faso Agreements to the 2015 Algiers Agreement
*The 2013 agreement with Burkina Faso: signed to begin recognizing our rights, but it has become a bargaining chip. Burkina Faso, Algeria, and Mali broke their promises, using the agreements as a tool to appease the revolution, not to resolve the conflict.
The 2015 Algiers Agreement:
It was a *huge deception*, turning the Azawad issue into a mere “local crisis” managed by corrupt regimes. Mali and Algeria failed to implement any clause guaranteeing the rights of the Azawadi people, but instead handed over our lands to Russian Wagner militias.
*The Algiers Agreement was nothing more than a cover for neighboring countries to legitimize their new occupation.*
2. Wagner and Russian Colonialism: *The Ugly Face of Betrayal*
Today, the occupation is no longer just Malian or African; it has transformed into *Russian military colonialism* through Wagner mercenaries, who slaughter civilians, plunder resources, and destroy entire villages.
The Role of Algeria and Burkina Faso: Their suspicious silence on Wagner’s crimes confirms that they are *partners in crime*. Instead of supporting the rights of the Azawadi people, they allowed the new occupying forces to impose their hegemony.
The international community: Ignores the suffering of the Azawad people, because its interests with Russia and its allies are more important than the blood of innocents.
3. The suffering of the Azawad people: Between killing and displacement.
*Daily genocide*: Villages burned, women abducted, men executed without trial.
*Starvation*: The siege imposed on Azawad deprives children of food and medicine.
*International silence*: The media conceals Wagner’s crimes, and “human rights” organizations choose to remain silent when the victims are Azawadis.
4. The resistance continues: We will not forget, and we will not forgive.
We say it with one voice: Azawad is not for sale!
*Bilal Sharif* and the leaders of freedom have not and will not betray the cause, but the traitors are the ones who signed fake agreements and then handed over our lands to mercenaries.
*The struggle will not stop* until we liberate every inch of Azawad land and expel every colonizer, whether African or Russian.
“If they betray you once, it’s their fault. If they betray you twice, it’s your fault.”
— And the Azawadi people will not be deceived again.
✊ Until when? Until we win!

14th Anniversary of Independence: When “Liberation” Turned into a New Colonialism
On April 6, we mark the 14th anniversary of Azawad’s independence, but the bigger question is: Have we truly been liberated?
The governments left behind by colonialism were nothing more than puppets lacking the most basic elements of democracy, belonging, or even an understanding of the history of the peoples they ruled. They were not created from the womb of the political philosophy that created nations, but rather from divisive conspiracies drawn up by the colonizer.
1. “Policymakers” or “Sovereignty Thieves”?
Machiavelli often said in “The Prince”:
“Politics is the art of domination, not of government.”
They are replacing external colonialism with internal colonialism, where countries are run with a mentality of loyalty to the foreigner, not to the people.
The historical identity of peoples like Azawad is being erased, replaced with a hybrid of failed secular laws.
Independence is reduced to empty celebrations, while wealth is sold and cultures are subjugated.
2. The culture of historical peoples: A crime in the eyes of the new rulers
These rulers do not understand—and do not want to understand—that
– History is not just events, but a contract between generations.
– Culture is not a “luxury,” but a weapon of resistance against oblivion.
– Democracy is not rigged ballot boxes, but the will of a people who refuse to be enslaved.
3. Azawad as a model: When independence is stolen.
On the 14th anniversary, we remind the world that: Our ancestors fought for a land that cannot be sold, while today’s governments are “silently destroying this legacy”.
True independence begins with the rejection of subservience, whether to old colonialism or its new “friends.”
Conclusion: We will not be victims of history.
As “Machiavelli” said: “Freedom is taken, not given”
We must *break the shackles of rulers who belong only to themselves*, and rewrite our history “with our own hands, not with the hands of mercenaries”.
