Since November 14, 2023, the FAMA and Russian mercenaries Wagner have invested the city of Kidal. Residents’ homes were ransacked and others were bulldozed. Traders’ shops are systematically looted, some traders are kidnapped or executed.
In private homes, all household appliances are taken away by the “police forces” and the rest is looted by home workers from the south of the country. The city is cordoned off and arrests and disappearances are a daily occurrence.
This is how two months after his arrest, the lifeless body of a virtuous retired teacher: Tita Ag Backrene, as well as two of his companions was found thrown on the outskirts of the town of Kidal. Tita is known by all for his loyalty, his dignity and his open-mindedness; he has never been part of armed groups. Their executioners didn’t even bother to bury them.
A few days later it was the turn of an honest citizen, Attakara Ag Atlagh, to be executed on his motorcycle with 3 of his companions whose disintegrated bodies were found in the open in Aghelhek south of Kidal. Attakara is the main fuel seller in the city, his courtesy and availability are recognized by all.
Columns of offensive and destructive armored vehicles, supported by Turkish drones, roam the desert pastures. They pillage the nomads’ settlement sites, destroy the water towers and summarily execute the men and animals found there.
This is how two opinion leaders in the town of Kidal in Amacine were assassinated, Ahmed Ag Hamzatta and Lamine Ag Bissada. The horrible expedition carried out at the beginning of July in the Abeybara circle left more than 60 victims, some of whom were Doussahak refugees in the area following their persecution by extremist groups in their region of origin.
It was during this expedition that they murdered Ghissa Ag Mahamad Ag Qassi, a poor man who would not harm anyone. There is total disarray, almost all places of cultural and religious learning have been stripped of their ancestral lands to be forced into exile at the edge of the borders of neighboring countries.
In the memory of our existence, such an event has never occurred in our history. The localities of Takalot, Amacine, Tassik are not spared, these columns carry out arrests, assassinations and pillaging of the populations, without distinction of their tribal or family affiliation (Ifoghas, Idnanes, Imghad, Taghat malat, Iboghilitan….)
How can we imagine the cohesion of a nation when its leaders call on foreign mercenary partners to systematically eliminate a portion of innocent citizens?
Because it is these mercenary partners who are on motorcycles to hunt down innocent people and burn pastures. It is these mercenary partners who are in the drone pilot stations and combat aircraft, they are the ones who give instructions and direct the interrogations, they are the ones who position satellites to control the sub-region.
Meanwhile, our nicknames “Pan-Africons” are screaming about regained sovereignty. It seems to me that the gap that separates the north and south of the country is becoming a gulf that is difficult to bridge.
The Peace and Reconciliation Agreement which moderated the situation for a certain time only served as an opportunity for the putschists to arm themselves, place themselves under different supervision and turn their back on the international community.
