“This is beyond anything we have experienced so far”
We return to Mberra to meet other witnesses. Nothing and no one escapes this mechanism, not even animals, which are decapitated as if they too were “guilty” of belonging to the Peuls or the Tuaregs”
Report by Alissa Descotes-Toyosaki for Africa XXI with testimonies from Tuareg and Fulani refugees and survivors of the atrocities of the Malian army and Wagner.
For more than ten years, the Mberra camp and surrounding villages have hosted tens of thousands of refugees who have fled the war in Mali. Testimonies of violence committed by jihadist groups, the Malian army and, more recently, Wagner’s fighters are multiplying and preventing any attempt to return.
