Statement by the Association of Scholars of Azawad denouncing the massacre carried out by Mali and the Russians against the civilian population:
Praise be to God, the Strong, the Mighty, whom we worship and to whom we seek help. May prayer and peace be upon the faithful guide who was sent as a mercy to the worlds.
Declaration No. (003)
NOW, We, the Council of Ulemas of Azawad, while wishing the Azawadi people and the entire Islamic nation the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, may God bring it back to us and to all Muslims with goodness, stability and power.
We condemn and denounce in the strongest terms the suspicious silence that we are witnessing from international and regional parties and Islamic and international human rights organizations regarding what the Malian army is committing under the leadership of the putschist military junta that usurped power in Bamako and its Russian Wagner mercenaries against the defenseless Azawadi people.
And the aggression, brutal terrorism and identity-based killings that they constantly practice, which do not spare children, women, the elderly and weak civilians for almost three years now, during which the killing machine has caused thousands of innocent deaths, injured hundreds and led to the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands who have been expelled from their homeland.
To become refugees in neighboring countries in an effort that has become clear is aimed at liquidating the Azawadi issue through genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Azawadis from Azawad.
We condemn this regional and international silence on these atrocious crimes committed against the defenseless Azawadi people, whose territory has been occupied and whose holy places violated. These are crimes on which silence constitutes a stain on the forehead of humanity.
It calls on international and regional actors and all organizations concerned with human rights around the world to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in protecting children, women, the elderly and defenseless civilians in Azawad against the acts of genocide committed against them by the Malian army with the support of Russian Wagner mercenaries.
We also calls on all Azawadis, including military and political leaders, social and tribal leaders, to close ranks, unite their voices and immediately commit themselves to the duty of defending their people, their honor and their property and protecting their dignity, in accordance with the words of the Almighty: “Permission to fight is given to those who are fought against, for they have been wronged.
And verily, Allah is competent to grant them victory. Those who have been expelled from their homes without right – only because they say: ‘Our Lord is Allah’” (Al-Hajj 39-40) and the words of the Almighty: “And if they ask you for help in matters of religion, then you must help them” (Al-Anfal 72). We ask Almighty God to uphold the truth, to strengthen his followers, to unify their hearts and their words. He is its Guardian and is able to do so. May God bless and grant peace to our master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace. May the peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you.
Association of Azawad Scholars.
Note: The statement includes an explicit condemnation of what are described as war crimes and violations against civilians in Azawad, and a call for international bodies to intervene and open an international investigation, in addition to calling on the Azawadi community to unite and stand together.
