On Telegram, Wagner’s Russian mercenaries have been exposing their crimes in Mali (and specifically, Azawad) for months and Jeune Afrique infiltrated one of their secret channels for several weeks. Following their investigation, Telegram finally did shut down the Russian war crimes channel.
On the channel “White Uncles in Africa 18+,” hundreds of photos and videos of abuses committed, particularly in Mali and Azawad had been posted. The videos and pictures evealed a daily routine of torture, executions, and desecration of corpses, racist war crimes, documented by their perpetrators for a neo-Nazi audience.
Videos and photos showed things like severed heads brandished like trophies. Proudly claimed civilian murders. On Telegram, mercenaries from the Russian Wagner (today the name is changed to Africa Corps) documented the atrocities they committed in Mali/Azawad , where they have been deployed alongside the Malian Armed Forces since late 2021.
The International Criminal Court is reviewing a confidential legal report asserting that the Russia-linked Wagner group has committed war crimes and been spreading images of apparent atrocities in West Africa on social media. They include videos alluding to cannibalism.
This investigation is done separately from the recent manifestation that took place on june 14. It seems like more and more of their atrocities committed against civilians in Azawad and Mali (and elsewhere in Africa) has come to light internationally.

After several months of activity and hundreds of photos and videos had been posted, the channel “White Uncles in Africa 18+,” revealed by Jeune Afrique, was shut down on June 25 by the Telegram messaging service. Wagner’s mercenaries had been posting images of abuses committed, particularly in Mali, on the channel.

It`s all about racism – and profit.
In the (now ex) Wagner red chatroom they call the Tuareg freedom fighters for “bergers”, the Jihadists are called “stinking Fulani,” and the Malian soldiers, their supposed allies they call “coal” or “niggers.”
Description quoted from the report, of videos and images from this now closed chat room:
“A mother and her two children hanged from a tree, two heads planted at the entrance to a bridge, six others impaled on the branches of an acacia tree, or this video of a naked man dying on the ground, his ear and fingers severed, his eye gouged out, a Russian flag stuck in his privates. The man was ultimately beheaded.”
And the most likes are to the worst of the images, they actually enjoy watching cruelty. It`s clear that the people in the Wagner chat room are not what you can call normal human beings.
In their investigation, Jeune Afrique listed 322 videos and 647 photos. Ample evidence, and even claims, of abuses, torture, and extrajudicial executions by the Malian army’s Russian partners. And there were some cases revealed by the RFI, (for example a massacre of 28 civilians near Tessalit on last february and it included women and children)
And as we know, the Malian junta have always denied that Wagner were in Mali, (we have written about it before) only to be proven wrong by countless of evidence in photos and videos of their atrocities – and it was proven wrong too, also by Russia itself (the irony…)
And now they call them Africa Corps. It changes nothing. Except for maybe the fact that the Africa Corps are directly responsible to the Ministry of Defense. But from what we have seen so far, that does not stop them from violating every human rights you can think of.
Cannibalism, rape, hanging, dismemberment… Wagner (now Africa Corps) films their atrocities and make profit on them by trafficking images of war crimes via Telegram. This was revealed by the Jeune_afrique.
Almost at the same time, the journalist Loup Vialett reveals in an investigating article on Atlantico, how Wagner had secret torture camps which they called “human butcheries.”
Now when Wagner (only the name) is changed to Africa Corps, these torture prisons are surely still in use since the genocide of the Azawadian population is still ongoing.
One of the most notorious is the former MINUSMA (United Nations Mission in Mali) base in Gao. The FAMa (Malian soldiers), who are actually under the Wagners’ orders, used their position to make ransom demands. Read the entire article:
The Red Wagner chat rooms on Telegram have been infiltrated by Africans but not by Tuaregs. Their crimes are beyond believe: Here’s what Wagner says: they refer to the Tuareg people herders who have been fighting for the freedom of their homeland Azawad for decades, as terrorists.

Wagners “red room” is closed down, and Wagner is now called the Africa Corps, but that makes absolutely no difference, they have most likely already put up another private chatroom under a different name, to watch atrocities being done against innocent civilians. We must wonder…. what kind of humans like to watch terror and pain against other humans? It`s useless to even try to understand such levels of evil.

THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AS A WEAPON
The report written by experts from the University of Berkeley in the United States that was sent to the International Criminal Court (ICC) last year, considers the sharing of the content (that was shared on the Wagner Telegram channel) of being likely to violate human rights in that it places it in the cathegory of “the use of social media as a weapon.”
It was journalists from the Associated Press who reviewed the document which accuses alleged mercenaries from the Russian Wagner group of sharing videos of abuses against civilians in various Sahel countries on their channel on the Telegram network.
The sharing of degrading images — even including cannibalism – is considered content likely to violate human rights. A video from example Burkina Faso is described as “men in military uniform can be seen committing abuses against civilians.”
We know that these videos exist because we have seen them, also those of Burkina Faso, where the described “men in uniform” were dancing and laughing with human body parts in their hands, even with cut off feet in their mouth. If the sharing itself of these videos is violating human rights is something for the experts to evaluate, but the content in all those videos of atrocities is surely violating every human right in existence.
To quote the RFI:
The sharing of these films constitutes “the use of social media as a weapon,” the Berkeley experts state in their report, which is why they call on the ICC prosecutor to review the case and investigate these crimes “committed via the internet, which are linked to physical crimes and add a new dimension of harm to a broader group of victims.”
That`s the bottom line – the videos intentionally adds a new dimension of harm.
One day justice will be done.
