Achibrich where the Russian mercenaries ended up having to sing “long live Azawad” …
WAGNER DEFEATED
It was actually July 25-26-27 the battle took place, but the 27th was the final day, and the day the victory was declared for Azawad. What a glorious day, that day, when the Azawad Liberation Forces made history defeating Wagner’s group in Tinzawaten together with their deputies Famas (although according to both reports and photos) many of the Malian soldiers fled into the desert… where they met their death because only the true inhabitants of the desert knows how to survive there.
It was an epic battle from an Azawadian perspective and tragic to others, and we have three different articles about the battle written at the time by different writers, but all have the same conclusion – the battle has gained its place in history. Here is a link to our three articles on the page of the Battle of Tinzawatene.
A BATTLE OF JUSTICE AND FREEDOM OF THE OPPRESSED
It was epic because it was a victory of good over evil. A battle between what the Wagners called the “bergers” against the “undefeatable” mercenaries who expected it to be an easy thing to defeat those “rag-clothed bergers in slippers”, who were nothing more than wild peasants in their ignorant minds. They gravely underestimated their enemy… and came face to face with a fierce and disciplined army who feared nothing and who did not flee.
This battle also changed a lot of things, and it caught the attention of the international press as well. It crushed the myth about Wagner as “undefeatable” and it showed the bravery of the the Azawad forces and proved them worthy. The Wagners learnt a very harsh lesson in Tinzawaten, that the people of Azawad don’t joke, and neither does the desert, because the desert does not like invaders!!
The defeat was Wagner´s biggest defeat on African soil.
In their fury the Malian army and Wagner sent drones and attacked and killed innocent people, mostly children (as always) and then another drone attack to kill gold miners from other countries who were in the area. All the killed were people that had nothing to do with this battle or its outcome. That cowardly act did not serve them anything, it only added more innocent blood on their hands.

Smoke and fire over the desert, and many many dead Wagner mercenaries, as well as Malians, and a few that were captured and who as of today apparently still are in captivity.

The Azawad army does not joke! It is a struggle for dignity, justice, and freedom.
This army, born out of oppression and suffering, and which has turned into a military force to be reckoned with, was something that the Wagner mercenaries did not expect. They expected probably these “bergers in slippers” to be undisciplined, disorganized and easy to erase from the earth… Instead they met resilience, courage and discipline beyond all expectations. The Africa Corps that now has replaced the Wagner (at least by name) has a serious problem with the Azawad Liberation Front. It seems like Russia has placed their bet on the wrong card.
Every day the victory of the oppressed gets inevitably closer.
Every soldier of the Azawad army is a piece of desert that refuses to be erased.
WHAT REMAINS OF THE BATTLE?
What remains of the battle is the certainty that Wagner and the Africa Corps are not invincible. That it made Azawad more known to the world, and the FLA as well. That the Wagner learnt the harsh lesson that those they racistly call “shepherds in rags and slippers” were in reality a disciplined, courageous, and fearless army and this army did indeed beat them.

IT´S A CELEBRATION OF JUSTICE
Celebrating Azawad Victory and Identity Reaffirmation
The band Tinariwen commemorates the Azawad’s victory over the Malian military forces and their substitutes, the Russian mercenaries of Africa Corps (formerly known as Wagner), through a special song. The commemoration comes on the anniversary of their most resounding defeat in Africa, which occurred specifically in Tinzawaten, in the Azawad region.
Tinariwen’s strong and unique message in favour of Azawad should, we hope, lift the veil on the group’s cultural, territorial and historical affiliation. It should also encourage the Malian parties who, without any scruples, do not hesitate to present them as identifying with Mali, even though this group owes its birth to the shooting and short-range execution of Ibrahim Ag Alhabib’s father (the leader of the group) by the Malian army in the 1960s-1963.

The song lyrics are:
Oh Azawad, your proud warriors, since time immemorial, have dragged their nights filled with indescribable pain.
Each twilight, draped in mystery, sees their hearts tighten with a poignant nostalgia as night approaches, when the exhausted sun abandons itself to the summits of the youngest acacias.
Then, the Wagners, those Russian shadows of death, fell and were lost, swallowed up in the stone beds of the great Azawadian wadis.
One was caught in chains, another breathed his last and buried in the burning sand without honor or tears. Of this cohort, none succeeded, not even a breath to whisper the echo of their fall.
As for their memory, it will fade, carried away by the dark, reddish desert wind, leaving behind only a deafening silence.
(Tinariwen)
Finally, every battle has its martyrs, and we honor the martyrs of Azawad. The brave men who are called the Lions of the Desert got their own memorial display and for them, who gave their blood for the freedom of Azawad and its people, for future generations to live in peace and in freedom, we pray that God have mercy on them and grant them a place in his vast paradise, God willing. That they may rest in peace, and surely they will never be forgotten.

Azawad: Momentarily beaten by the hands of the population in tribute to the martyrs of the historic battle of 25, 26 and 27 July 2024 against Wagner mercenaries carrying FAMAs in Tinzawaten.
A date engraved in the collective memory of the people of Azawad. It´s exactly one year to the day since the resounding defeat of the invaders at the hands of the Azawadian resistance. One year later, this victory remains a powerful symbol of the Azawad people’s ability to defend their land, their honor, and their freedom.
