Press release on the massacres committed by the Famas on the civilian population in Tinzawaten. The Azawad Solidarity Association learned with dismay and indignation of the massacre of 26 civilians by cowardly airstrikes carried out by the Malian Armed Forces this Sunday, August 25, 2024, with a Burkinabe drone of Turkish manufacture, in Tinzawaten.
These attacks cowardly targeted civilians in a refugee camp, causing several deaths and injuries, most of them children. Tinzawaten is a crossroads that welcomes many migrants from all sub-Saharan nationalities, therefore, in addition to the civilian victims from the said locality, several nationalities, including Chadians, Nigerians and Sudanese, unfortunately perished in this barbaric attack.
In these tragic moments, Azawad solidarity presents its most saddened condolences to the bereaved families and to all the people of Azawad. All our thoughts are with the victims, the injured and their loved ones. On the humanitarian level, the situation is just as tragic for these populations. They are prey to the lack of water, food and emergency medical care.
The only community health center in the locality was destroyed and its manager was also killed, this 25/08/2024, by these drone strikes. The populations are cruelly threatened by famine and epidemics and require urgent assistance.
It is for this reason that we launch a cry from the heart to regional and international humanitarian actors, to all those of good will to come to the aid of these populations as quickly as possible.
We would like to thank Algeria and Mauritania for the reception and humanitarian responses they provide to the refugees who fled the bombings of the Bamako junta and its Russian partners.
We also ask them to be more committed to protecting displaced persons and civilian refugees in Tinzawaten and in all other camps hosting refugees.
Azawad Solidarity urges countries that support the terrorist junta in Bamako in these massacres of civilian populations to respect human rights. The Azawadian people have the right to security and self-determination, it is imperative that regional and international bodies seriously concern themselves with their protection.
