Open letter from Tuareg, Arab and Fulani students in exile to the whole world.
We, students forced into exile, take up our pens to denounce the tragedy that is striking our communities in the complicit silence of the international community. For months, our families, our loved ones and our villages have suffered unheard-of violence perpetrated by the Malian army and its allies, including the Russian mercenaries of the Wagner group.
These forces, supported by tribal leaders who have chosen to collaborate with oppression, sow terror through massacres, looting and systematic burning of our lands and homes. We can no longer remain silent in the face of these crimes.
We are no longer with these tribal leaders who have betrayed their own people to align themselves with the forces of destruction. We are the voices of those who suffer, those who die, those who are silenced under the threat of weapons.
We call on the international community, human rights organizations, the media, and all those who still have an ounce of humanity to stand up and take action.
We demand:
- An independent international investigation into the crimes committed against our communities.
- Sanctions against those responsible for these atrocities.
- Protection for civilian populations abandoned to violence.
- Support for refugees and students in exile, forced to flee their country to survive.
Our exile does not silence us. Our words will carry far and wide, because it is our duty to bear witness and demand justice.
To you who are reading us, do not look away. Take action. Share our call. Demand accountability.
Tuareg, Arab and Fulani students in exile.
