PRESS RELEASE
Mali: Barbaric Abuses Against Civilians in Azawad.
Peaceful Rally in Front of the Headquarters of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Hague (Netherlands)
Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Faced with the escalation of violence and the persistence of impunity in the Central Sahel, the Tuareg Diaspora in Europe is calling for a peaceful rally in front of the headquarters of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Saturday, June 14, 2025, to alert this institution and the international community to the tragic plight of civilian populations in the Central Sahel, particularly in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
Caught between the indiscriminate attacks of jihadist groups and the arbitrary abuses of certain regular armies, civilian populations are being abandoned to their fate.
Targeted campaigns of violence against specific communities, notably the Kel-Tamajeq (Tuareg), the Fulani, and the Arabs, have been documented in Mali and Burkina Faso, amid near-general indifference.
Despite repeated warnings from human rights organizations, the international community remains largely silent in the face of what some observers are already calling a strategy of ethnic cleansing being pursued by states such as Mali and Burkina Faso.
We call on the International Criminal Court to:
Implement mechanisms to investigate and prosecute individual or collective perpetrators of mass crimes against unarmed civilians targeted on ethnic grounds.
We call on ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations to:
Fully assume their mandate to protect civilian populations displaced, persecuted, or massacred because of their community affiliation.
We also call on the European Union to:
• Include the issue of serious and documented human rights violations in its relations with the governments involved.
Finally, we urge the United Nations Security Council to:
• Take concrete action to end impunity and alleviate the suffering of the Sahelian populations.
