In our opinion the information about what is happening in Azawad needs to be shared further since the international media is silent or malinformed. That`s why we share the information. We focus on helping refugees and sharing information about their situation and explaining why they are in their situation.
We hope to see a peaceful solution regarding the problem between Azawad and Mali, two distincly different nations who should never had been force-attached together by France at the end of colonization, a damage that still cause serious problems of oppression and genocide on the population that has been ongoing since 64 years. Unfortunately Mali does not want a peaceful solution and therefore the Azawad Liberation Front, keeps fighting for freedom of the people of Azawad.
The so-called “Tuareg rebellions” which should rather be called “resistance and fight for freedom” are nothing but a people´s reaction to severe injustice and oppression to the point of calculated genocide and the scorched earth policy. Those that says that Azawad should live in peace with Mali do not understand that the authorities of Mali don`t want any peace, they want extermination of Azawad. They always wanted it.
Before coloinization and the creation of the artificial borders (the “fences”) and the state of Mali, Azawad was free without borders and belonged to its people. It should be returned to them. It`s a just cause.
In today`s world there is borders, and Azawad too has now defined borders. What the Azawad struggle is based on is the defense of indigenous people´s right to self-determination, as mandated by the UN and which was at least officially endorsed by Mali itself. But there is a clash between the legal architecture of post-colonial states such as Mali, and international law regarding indigenous peoples.
While Mali asserts that there are no “indigenous or minority people” – thus ignoring the fact that the people of Azawad lived on the land in their own society structures long before Mali was even made. And thus, also deprive them of any form of protection by omitting the words “indigenous” and “minority” from the Malian constitution. And that the idea of granting autonomy to certain groups, (like the Tuaregs, Arab/Moors or Fulanis) would violate the indivisibility of Mali and the “equality of all citizens before the law” (an equality that in reality does not exist!! and have never existed) and that Mali rely on “preserving borders inherited from the colonial era”.
But – here is what is ignored: that there is a fundamental criterion for indigeneity, which is self-identification and preservation of the specific ways of life linked to ancestral territories that existed before colonization began. Such as Azawad, in todays “northern Mali”.
In other words, the distinct cultural, historical, and geographical connections that native groups have to specific lands, such as the people of Azawad did have since millenia, long before colonization. It is more than just a personal identity, it´s a living network of ancestral knowledge, and sovereign relationships to a place as well as responsibilities. It`s a people rooted to their ancestral land.

The Azawad Support Group is peacefully supporting the Azawad cause from a humanitarian point of view, and we condemn all atrocities and massacres on the Azawadian people by the Russian mercenaries, Malian militias and also terrorist groups. We do not support extremism in any form.
As for the Azawad Liberation Front, they have never been known to commit any atrocities against civilians, they have always only targeted military targets. And they have always treated their prisoners from battles in a humanitarian way, according to international laws regarding war prisoners.
We support a cause, not specific individuals or this or that armed or unarmed group. People and groups come and go, but the cause itself remains unchanged. And this is a just cause.
