Dozens of prisoners from Mali militias at the hands of Azawad Liberation Front.
A WELL-PLANNED AMBUSH
An ambush on saturday morning, july 18, 2026 by the Azawad Liberation Front on vehicles with Malian Fama soldiers and Russian Afrika Korps mercenaries resulted in the destruction of several armored vehicles, and the killing and capture of dozens of Malian soldiers. This happened in the Tabrichat area.
When the remaining soldiers and mercenaries withdrew they left behind vehicles, some armored and with military equipment. The ambush is a part of the ongoing conflicts and related to the recent clashes in the Anefif region since early July.
There´s a military escalation between the Azawad army and Malian forces supported by elements of the Afrika Korps, and the battle of Anefif is not over, it has just begun. The Azawad forces will continue to fight in a war that has been imposed on them, until they reach complete liberation of Azawad, and the separation of the Azawad region from Mali.
The Malian ruling council has also been criticized as being “useless and indifferent” regarding the Malian prisoners, and it has been announced that the Azawad army call on the families of their hundreds of prisoners to contact the Azawad Liberation Front directly to check on their relatives, instead of any mediation or passing through the military authorities in Bamako. That says something about what their priorities apparently are – extermination of the Azawadian Arab (moors) Tuareg and Fulani people at any cost.
There is no peace in sight in a country where the northern part was stolen by french colonization and then unjustly given to a new state (created by France) with whom the Azawadian people has nothing in common, a centralized and racist state who do everything they can to exterminate them.
Since 1963.
THE ENTRANCE OF RUSSIAN WAGNER MERCENARIES AND THE MASSACRE OF MOURA
With Russian criminal mercenaries since 2022, starting with the massacre of Moura.
Where at least 500 people are believed to have been summarily executed, after a military helicopter flew over Moura, opening fire on people, while four other helicopters landed and troops disembarked.
These troops started a 4 day long continuous massacre where soldiers corralled people into the center of the village, shooting randomly at those trying to escape. Witnesses described that “armed white men” who spoke an unknown language operating alongside the Malian forces, according to reports by OHCHR.
Russian mercenaries who came to kill, and who later changed the name “Wagner” to “Africa Corps” in a vain attempt to clean their irreparable bad reputation they have gained due to all horrific and inhuman atrocities they have done (in many African countries, not only in Mali and Azawad.) To appear more “civilized”.
And when the Azawadian people resist and fight back, the Malian authorities and the Afrika Korps label them as “terrorists”, and only outwardly “accept” (as long as they can use them) those Tuaregs that betray their own people by joining the side of the oppressor for personal and temporary gain.
INCREASING MALIAN STATE MILITARIZATION
Increasing Malian state militarization is a producer of instability, exile and forced migration. Militarization will never bring any peace anywhere.
The Malian junta call the militarization a “security” project, and the Russian mercenaries for “instructors”. But in reality it´s a project without any protection. And the Russian mercenaries are not “instructors”, they are paid murderers, among whom many are recruited from the worst of criminals in Russian jails, making way for resource extraction and demographic changes in exchange for money and resources that benefits them, nothing else.
The Tuareg population has been forced into exile since Mali’s arrival on their lands in 1958.
It`s a sad state of things, and there will be no peace until the Azawad issue dating back 68 years, is justly resolved. Because the root of the conflict has never been addressed.
