On 17 August 1990, a company of paratroopers, led by Captain Siaka Koné, assigned by Gao for a special mission, occupied the old Taher camp at Alket, 25 kilometres south of Kidal on the road to Gao.
The soldiers began by searching the tents, but when they found nothing, they turned to their occupants. Two soldiers were tasked with removing the women’s ornaments and jewellery (rings, silver or gold bracelets, necklaces, etc.).
Then 10 nomads were forced to dig a large hole. After this work was completed, the 10 men were stretched out there. The soldiers then threw two hand grenades into the hole, killing seven Tuaregs on the spot: Assiltan Ag Moussa and his son, El Khouni Ag Moussa and his brother, Taher Ag Abaj, Mahmoud Ag Abaj and his brother, Kaya Ag Akhmoudane, and Lamine Ag Bessada. The other three, seriously wounded, were taken to the hospital in Kidal. One of them has already died from his injuries.

The blood they have on their hands!
