FREEDOM FIGHTERS, FREEDOM WRITERS! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Azawad Support Group is an international collective of activists and supporters for the cause of Azawad, working independently and also together. Tuaregs and friends and allies of the Tuaregs, living all over the world on different continents. The Azawad Support Group does not organize demonstrations or other actions. We only write on social media and on this website, sometimes together with other contributors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This website aims to raise public awareness about the situation in Azawad and the genocide currently taking place there, knowing this is a legal and just cause for the people of Azawad who have the right to live in freedom and independence in their own homeland like any other people. Our mission is supportive, to not remain silent in the face of adversity and oppression, of all the crimes committed against the people of Azawad in the face of this terrible genocide. To remain silent if you can do something is to be complicit and we are here to break the silence and support the people of Azawad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their land, which was stolen and colonized by France who called it “French Sudan”, (how can other people\u00b4s land be theirs? be “french” ? it was never french\u2026) and who – arrogantly without the slightest regard for the fact that there were people living there already, and without their consent – handed it over to Mali, which was the state they created at the end of their colonization, drawing artificial borders in this desert area where many nomads already lived a free life without borders which they had always done for thousands of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people of Azawad want only one thing – to be free from injustice, racism, oppression, marginalization and genocide – simply because they exist and have existed on these lands of the great Sahara since time immemorial where their ancestors engraved the tifinagh and drawings of animals and people on the rocks that dot the entire region and which are today the ultimate proof that this land belongs to them. This is also what the desert blues band Tamikrest sings in their song “Azawad”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tifinagh is their centuries-old writing, the oldest alphabet on the planet, and still used by the Amazigh people, of which the Tuareg are a branch who settled in the Sahara long before Mali existed, and who formed their own culture which is different from any other. They too have the right to live on their land, like any other people, and they have been fighting for their independence since the 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The international media does not fail to point out that many other places on this planet are the scene of oppression by totalitarian governments and dictatorships and genocides perpetrated in the name of profit and power and which indeed is a sad truth that everybody knows about but\u2026.. for some reason, economic interests or other reasons, the situation in Azawad is being silenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WE ARE HERE TO TELL THE WORLD WHAT IS HAPPENING IN AZAWAD AND BREAK THE SILENCE ON AZAWAD!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope to see a peaceful solution regarding the problem between Azawad and Mali, two distincly different nations who should never had been attached together, a damage that still cause serious problems of oppression and genocide on the Azawadian population that has been ongoing since 64 years. Unfortunately Mali does obviously not want a peaceful solution and therefore the Azawad Liberation Front army, the FLA, keeps fighting for the freedom of the people of Azawad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The so-called “Tuareg rebellions” – which should rather be called “- resistance and fight for freedom” are nothing but a people\u00b4s reaction to severe injustice, marginalization and oppression to the point of systematic genocide using the scorched earth policy. Those that says that Azawad should live in peace with Mali do not understand that the authorities of Mali don`t want any peace, they want extermination of Azawad. They always wanted it, there are too much evidence about that to convince us otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before colonization and the creation of the artificial borders (the “fences”) and the state of Mali, Azawad was free without borders and belonged to its people. It should be returned to them. It`s a just cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the goal of this blog, to raise awareness, re-share what we see and support the fight for freedom for the people of Azawad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 -Use social media, read and share articles about what is happening in Azawad, share the link to Azawad media pages and this blog on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter\/X, Tik Tok. Social media is very important! Modern media is a powerful weapon in our struggle for freedom and independence. A visual presence contributes to raising awareness of the urgent situation in Azawad – which is not just a dream, but a historical reality and a solid cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 – Tanakra News<\/a> and others, like this blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 – Try to find people with similar goals and do something together if possible, whether online, offline or both. We do not all live in the same countries, quite the contrary. Organize information meetings, collect protest lists, involve people, raise awareness in any way that is suitable to you and your situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 – Organize or attend to manifestations<\/a> against the genocide<\/a> of Azawad civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 – Contact organizations like Azawad Solidarity<\/a> and ask if there are collections for refugees who need support. Contact other organizations like Imohaugh International<\/a> and see where support is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 – Write or read a book! Akli Sh*kka<\/a> wrote a great one… (in English, but there is a french PDF version to read or download on this webpage.)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 – Listen and support the desert blues bands, they sing a lot about the suffering of the people of Azawad as well as poetry, life in the desert and nostalgia. Their music is called assouf, or desert blues. And even though they sing mostly in their mother tongue, Tamasheq in order to preserve their threatened language, their albums are often translated and through music we can still learn because music is a universal language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And their music is so very good!! it speaks directly into the soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
