\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Statement by Khamidoune_Ag_Toumast in response to those who say, \u201cThere is no such thing as an Azawad people\u201d &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-link-color wp-elements-bcc10c0fef6b2f42eaa23d66b2b6b41a\"><strong>It proves only one thing:<\/strong> that they have never read history\u2026 have never respected <a href=\"https:\/\/freeazawad.com\/en_gb\/lets-take-a-look-at-old-pre-colonial-colonial-maps-of-azawad\/\">geography<\/a>\u2026 and know nothing of the peoples who arrived here long before the very creation of Mali!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">To speak of \u201cdeception\u201d is nothing more than an expression of profound ignorance of the historical, geographical, and human realities that attest to the existence of this people for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Azawad people are not an illusion\u2026 but an unchanging reality for centuries, long before colonial borders were drawn on paper and imposed by force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Azawad was not created by a political decision, nor did it appear by chance: it is a recognized region, a recognized culture, a recognized people, and a strong collective memory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-mono-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-84e412079b34b182b43d2ccbec2c5ab9\">\n<li class=\"\">A history of resistance spanning thousands of years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-mono-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8e9552464ce2d2ae5b0b541c3fd858d2\">\n<li class=\"\">A language, an identity, and a heritage that cannot be erased.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-mono-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d5aca32837d28f19e8b68f1d2248b1c6\">\n<li class=\"\">And a land that was independent at the time of colonization and never chose to become part of Mali.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Tuareg did not \u201cfall\u201d from the sky into Mali\u2026 it was rather Mali that was imposed upon their land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"633\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/freeazawad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7667-2.png?resize=633%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5442\" decades of internal policies of repression, forced exile, and attempts to erase their identity, in the worst possible continuation of a system deeply discriminatory towards the people of Azawad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And to claim that the creation of a Tuareg state should \u201cexist everywhere or nowhere\u201d is a blatant display of political ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Arabs are spread across 22 countries, Amazighs throughout North Africa, Kurds in four countries\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Does this mean their identities have no roots?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Of course not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Nations are built on the land where a people struggles, sacrifices, and sheds its blood for its freedom\u2026 and Azawad has long since paid this price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"is-style-wide wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Then comes the most absurd of accusations: accusing an oppressed people of being involved in a \u201cgreat replacement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>It\u2019s almost ironic:<\/strong> Those who suffer massacres, exodus, destruction, and cleansing can in no way be part of a replacement project, but rather the victims of a state that has practiced murder, arson, and bombing against them for decades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The victim doesn\u2019t replace anyone\u2026 they are replaced by those who persecute them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>And herein lies the profound contradiction:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Those who claim that Africa is \u201ctheir property\u201d are precisely those who practice racism in its most blatant form. People do not need anyone\u2019s permission to exist. And they do not have to ask anyone\u2019s consent to live with dignity on their own land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">Denying the existence of the people of Azawad is not an innocent opinion, but a racist discourse that contradicts history, facts, records, and demographic and geographical reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The people of Azawad possess their own language, heritage, social organization, and geographical space, and they existed long before the formation of the modern Malian state.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The presence of Tuaregs in other countries in no way negates their roots in Azawad, nor the legitimacy of their historical rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-mono-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-32f6ead69b3f64a23bbf6ebff54512e6\">To say \u201cThere is no such thing as an Azawad people\u201d is like closing your eyes and shouting that the sun doesn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-mono-2-color has-text-color has-link-color has-superbfont-large-font-size wp-elements-312b473085b8b91ef96c9ef22a755fc7\">Truth doesn\u2019t disappear through denial\u2026 but this denial reveals the emptiness of the one who utters it, not the emptiness of the truth itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The real deception isn\u2019t the existence of Azawad\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">The real deception is the attempt to erase the genocide committed against this people, the concealment of crimes, the falsification of reality, and the transformation of the victim into the accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The real deception is ignoring the thousands of victims, the forced exodus, and the documented massacres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The real deception is a state that seeks to erase the identity of a people far older than itself. The truth must be spoken clearly, without ambiguity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Azawad is a people\u2026an identity\u2026a land\u2026a history\u2026 and denial will never change reality, but only reveals the fear of those who have no arguments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Azawad is neither a mirage, nor a passing project, nor a mere political movement\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Azawad is the cause of an entire people whose right to exist has been stolen from them, whose erasure has been imposed upon them, who have suffered massacres and forced displacement, and yet who remain standing: they resist, they defend, they move forward, and they wrest their right to the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"is-style-wide wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Racism will not change reality, propaganda cannot stifle history, and the fear of acknowledging the truth will never erase an entire people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Azawad exists\u2026 whether people like it or not.
