IS THE UNITED NATIONS BLIND, OR IS INJUSTICE LEGITIMIZED?
That is a question that many now are asking after it got known via an article by France 24, that the UN is apparently calling for an investigation on the death of Malian soldiers on the Tabrichat battlefield.
There is a war, and Malian soldiers were killed. The UN is calling for an investigation since the circumstances are complicated. But here is the point: They are calling for an investigation even though civilians have been massacred for five years, and by none other than the so-called Malian army and its Russian henchmen.
Where was the UN when hundreds of civilians in Azawad were killed and serious human rights violations were denounced for years?
Where was the UN when this young civilian Tuareg man was summarily arrested with three others by the Afrika Korps, then they were all decapitated. And this man`s legs and arms were cut off and placed in the sand with sunshades onto the head, and his body parts placed around his head in the shape of a nazi swastika?
Where was the UN when that little Azawadian Tuareg baby was charred to ashes by a Turkish drone used by the Malian military junta and Wagner?
The hypocrisy is stark.
Today, the UN reacted swiftly to the deaths of FAMa soldiers by announcing an investigation.
The problem is not an investigation in itself, but the obvious hypocrisy. A UN investigation into the deaths of soldiers on the Tabrichat battlefield is not in itself objectionable, but the same standards need to be applied to all situations without exception.
It must also be noted that to this day there has not been any official statement by the Malian authorities confirming the deaths of these soldiers. Neither has there been seen any reaction or even any attempt to bury their own soldiers. Instead, from what we have read, the Azawad Liberation Front took on themselves the task of burying these bodies in Tabrichat, which was the decent thing to do.
The people of Azawad have been killed for five years at the hands of the Malian army and mercenaries, (and before the mercenaries came in 2022, by the successive Malian governments since 1960) and yet there has not been any condemnation or request for justice from the United Nations! Today, they cry over the killing of soldiers who were fighting and killing civilians before they in turn were killed.
But years and years of massacres on civilians in Azawad caused no reaction, only a silence which speaks louder than words.
During these years, there has been published several reports from independent international organizations, detailing documented allegations of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and other serious violations targeting civilians and children.
These acts have been attributed to the Malian armed forces and the Wagner Group (later the Afrika Korps) – and these reports have been supported by testimonies, photographs, documents, and evidence submitted to the relevant international mechanisms.
For many, this prolonged silence in the face of civilian suffering seriously calls into question the credibility, impartiality, and very mission of the UN.
Does not all lives count?
And the question remains:
Why has the UN not conducted an investigation into the massacres of the people of Azawad by the Malian army and the Afrika Korps?
Note: We spell it Afrika Korps rather than Africa Corps, which we think is more fitting seeing to their recent crime with the nazi swastika made with chopped off body parts of an innocent Tuareg victim.
